  • Design & Custom Lighting

Considering lighting at the architectural design stage of building your dream home or renovation project will help you clarify your use of each area in the home, as well as create the aesthetic impact you would like to achieve. A good lighting plan will provide the balanced illumination necessary for all the activities in the house, yet be as unobtrusive and as energy efficient as possible. With the help of our lighting design department let Daniels Electric, LLC design a custom lighting system for you

As we design your new living space, and we incorporate your lighting scheme, there are a few "rules of the road".

First, lighting is both an art and a science, so, unless you are very lighting literate, it would be wise to work with a Daniels Electric lighting consultant. We are able to accurately place lights, decide which fixtures are best and how much illumination is required in each specific space.

Next, with our lighting designers guidance, determine the lighting effects you and your family require room by room. Though lighting requirements will vary in different areas of a residence, they will usually fall in four main categories: General lighting, Accent lighting, Wall Wash lighting, and Task lighting.

Think about lighting and the rooms in your home. Without proper lighting in the kitchen, cooking and other kitchen activities can become a chore rather than a pleasure. You'll discover that the best kitchen lighting is not only functional but also adds grace and visual interest -- factors that combine to make your kitchen both an easy and pleasant place to work.

Would you enjoy a family room that magically changes from a large gallery for parties to an intimate space for an evening of coffee and conversation? Proper lighting can do that for you. How about a dining room that is easily transformed from a bright, informal extended family dinner setting to a warmly lit, romantic table for two, or a master bedroom that can be open and airy or cozy enough to read in bed while another alongside you sleeps peacefully and undisturbed? All of these situations and more can be addressed through properly designed lighting system.

In today's new homes and those built in the future, individuals and developers alike are adding lighting experts to their cadre of consultants. Interior and exterior design, colors, fabrics, furniture, floor coverings, and lighting equally share consideration when it comes to creature comforts and as well as practical needs.

Master Electrician Stephen Daniels has been installing and designing lighting systems for over 20 years. Let his experience go to work for you!

  • Retrofit LED Lighting

Out with the old, in with the newest – the future of lighting is now. LED retrofit lamps are direct replacements for conventional incandescent, halogen, and compact fluorescent (CFL) lamps. LEDs deliver higher lumens per watt (lm/W) which means significant energy savings while lasting more than ten times longer than incandescent sources. With their directional light, instant on and ability to dim, LEDs are fast becoming the light source of choice.

Commercial and residential applications benefit with LED retrofit technology. Daniels Electric, LLC offers LED fixtures and bulbs which can directly replace existing incandescent, fluorescent and halogen bulbs. In this way we hope to encourage widespread use of LEDs to save energy, money, and provide better lighting and display solutions.

It is our goal is to show our clients how to save energy and money by utilizing safe, efficient, solid state lighting for display purposes as well as providing cost effective alternatives to current commercial use of fluorescent and incandescent bulbs.

Massachusetts Requirement for Carbon Monoxide Alarms

In November 2005, Governor Mitt Romney signed “Nicole’s Law” which places certain requirements on owners of all residential properties to install and maintain carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. The Board of Fire Prevention Regulations has developed the regulations (527 CMR 31.00) establishing the specific requirements of the law including the type, location, maintenance and inspection requirements for the alarms.

Who Is Impacted by this Law?

    • All residential buildings
    • Transient residential buildings such as hotels and motels
    • Institutional buildings such as hospitals, nursing homes, rest homes and jails
    • Group day care & after school centers. Only properties with a potential source of carbon monoxide such as fossil-fuel burning equipment or an enclosed or attached garage are affected by this law

What Do I Have to Do?

    • Install CO alarms on every level of your home except for basements and attics that do not have habitable living spaces (i.e., family rooms, dens, etc.) by March 31, 2006.
    • Landlords Must Inspect Annually and at Start of Each Rental Period
    • Landlords must inspect, maintain, and replace, if necessary, required CO alarms annually and at the beginning of any rental period. Tenants should report any problems with detectors to the landlord immediately and learn to recognize the difference between the smoke alarm and the carbon monoxide detector.
  • Thermographic Electrical Inspection

Daniels Electric, LLC’s infrared electrical systems inspection is available as part of a regular preventive maintenance program. The thermographic inspection method allows for inspection of a large amount of electrical equipment in a much shorter period of time compared to physical, alternative methods. The infrared electrical survey can locate faulty electrical equipment not generally found during a physical inspection. This can help locate problems before they lead to an unscheduled outage, equipment damage or a fire.

Thermographic inspection, is preventive maintenance conducted while your equipment is in operation. This means that you can be running your equipment and machines on a normal schedule without delays. Any abnormalities that are found during the inspection, can be dealt with in a timely manner, which ultimately saves you money.

Daniels Electric can pinpoint and document hidden problems in all types of electrical and mechanical equipment. We detect hot spots in both mechanical and electrical equipment provided it is viewable and accessible, The benefit of using us to perform a Thermographic inspection is that we are Level I certified in thermal testing and we are licensed Electricians, that means we are qualified and insured to remove all panel boards for the testing. Most independent testing company’s require the customer to have licensed electrician as well as a Level I Thermographic inspector. When you hire Daniels Electric, you get both professionals in one. Another significant benefit is if a loose connection or other quick fix problem is found, we could take care of it then during the inspection while the panel board is open, saving you both time and money.

Here is a short list of some of the things we can look at. The list is, however endless.

"An estimated 2 million homes were built with aluminum wire between 1965 and the mid to late 70's. These homes are "55 times more likely to have one or more connections reach FIRE HAZARD CONDITION than is a home wired with copper."

    - The United Stated Consumer Product Safety Commission, CPSC

Daniels Electric, LLC can provide the AlumiConn recommended method for repair. The AlumiConn (short for aluminum + connector) physically intersplice aluminum and copper wire together! Because the ports on AlumiConn are independent of each other, current can flow from the aluminum wire to the copper through the internal lug. For further safety and security, each port on the AlumiConn connector comes pre-filled with a proprietary anti-oxidant sealant, further eliminating any possibility of oxidation build up.

Signs of trouble in aluminum wire systems include:

    • Cover plates on outlets or switches that are warm-to-the-touch
    • Flickering lights
    • Circuits that don’t work, or work intermittently
    • The smell of burning plastic at outlets, switches, or lighting
    • Smoking outlets, switches, or lighting
    • Tripping circuit breakers, for no apparent reason
    • Unusual static on the radio or TV

As written in the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission brochure (download a copy), the CPSC has approved of only three methods for a permanent repair (based on the standards as of the date of this publication.)

    1. Complete Replacement of Copper Cable
    2. COPALUM Method of Repair
    3. Acceptable Alternative Repair Method/AlumiConn Connector
